Patrick Sexton
Executive Vice President, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary
Patrick Sexton leads Cboe's global legal team and oversees the quality of legal services across Cboe. He is responsible for providing legal counsel to senior management related to complex legal and policy issues, and is a trusted advisor supporting Cboe's growth and the mitigation of enterprise risks in the global regulatory environment in which Cboe operates. He also oversees Cboe's compliance function and serves as corporate secretary to the Cboe Board of Directors. His leadership and guidance have been instrumental to Cboe's global expansion over the last few years.
Previously, Sexton served as Cboe's Deputy General Counsel. Since joining Cboe in 1997, he has acted as legal, regulatory and compliance counsel with increasing responsibilities and oversight roles related to the company's operations, corporate and regulatory functions, governance, trading functions and work with regulators. Sexton played a significant role in certain important developments in Cboe's history, including Cboe's demutualization in 2010, and Cboe's acquisition of Bats Global Markets in 2017. Sexton began his legal career as a law clerk to William G. Clark of the Illinois Supreme Court, and then was in private practice in Chicago focused on litigation and appellate work.
Sexton holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame and a J.D. with honors from Notre Dame Law School.
